The Beacon initiative is intended to create a climate of co-operation and sharing. Its aim is to create a national network of schools with identified areas of expertise to ensure that all schools have access to practical advice and support which will lead to improved levels of pupil achievement. Beacon Schools are usually high achieving schools that have identified key aspects of their success that could be shared with other schools. In Hull we currently have two Beacon Schools: Hull Trinity House awarded for boys achievement, school leadership and management, monitoring and evaluation, small school issues, inclusion - attendance and behaviour. St Mary’s College awarded for use of ICT, social inclusion - tackling disaffection, CPD, literacy, numeracy, MFL, sports
