Excellence In Cities Week

Monday 14 October -  Friday 18 October 2002

[New!]This is the first national EiC week and it is expected to gain a lot of publicity in the press, on T.V. and on the radio. DfES are so commited to it that they have put in place a special EiC week publicity team headed by Jocelyn Lowen. All local Press Officers have been alerted and are on standby for any exciting events that will be going on in the area.

If your school is planning anything, then let us know and we'll put it up on our website.

EiC week activities

14 October (CLC day)

North Hull City Learning Centre will host an open day. Primary, Secondary and Specialist schools will all be at the centre during the day. The theme for the day will be Interactive Media and film. There will be displays of students work and viewings of various films made by students. East Hull City Learning Centre will officially launch the start of EiC week. The Lord Mayor will attend and launch the EiC website and Good Practice Guides. Students from Archbishop Thurstan School will take part in a digital music presentation. This will take place at 1.30p.m.

15 October (G&T/EC day)

Kelvin Hall School - will hold a parents meeting to discuss the Intensive Advanced Reading course Year 11 G&T students will attend. This course will help pupils obtain advanced skills which can be put to use when completing their GCSEs. Isaac Newton - official launch of G&T and EC Isaac Newton - EC students will work with the University of Lincoln to produce a short film on life at university. The film will be able to be viewed on the EiC and Isaac Newton website. St Mary’s - G&T students from year 11 and students from year 12 have produced a musical show called “Songs from the Shows” as a celebration of talent, students from all years in the school will perform songs from the large London musicals. 16 October (LM/LSU day)

The Zone - Interactive Whiteboard demonstrations will be taking place at Maybury Primary school. Winifred Holtby - running a drop-in at Youth Club over lunchtime.

17 October (The Zone day)

David Lister and Isaac Newton - both schools will hold Summer School presentation evenings. Newland - official opening of new school building and opening of refurbished building housing EiC facilities including Learning Support Unit, Learning Mentors room and Learning Centre which will be used by G&T students. Opened by Peter Fletcher, Director of Learning Services. The Zone - Writing sessions for KS2 students - Introductory session to video conferencing for students in year 5. Aim of session is to allow students to link with associate secondary school to aid transition in year 6. - Meetings for students who completed “Baby Sitting” course and parents group from primary school.

18 October (SS/BS)

Kingswood - From the 21 October will be running a Stone Carving project.

Malet Lambert - Malet Lambert have specialist school status in Language and are running a Culture week during EiC week. Monday will involve year 7 focusing on Italy/Germany, Tuesday Year 9 focusing on China, Wednesday Year 8 and Spain and Thursday year 10 and Italy/Germany. Different activities will be offered in a variety of subject areas for each year group to broaden their understanding of the countries whose language is being taught. Breakfast from each country and a lunch dish will be offered each day. On Thursday evening there will be a parents evening to celebrate the work of the students during the week.

G&T Cluster Group (David Lister, Malet Lambert, Andrew Marvell, Isaac Newton and Archbishop Thurstan) - a supplement for the Hull Daily Mail will be available during EiC week showcasing students work.
